Privacy + Security Academy: State Privacy Law Workshop
Speaker: Olga Medina, Director, Policy, BSA | The Software Alliance
BSA’s Olga Medina leads a workshop on the most important privacy developments on the state level, including a deep dive into comprehensive state laws and proposals, as well as other state law developments.
This workshop looks at the most important developments on the state level. California has received significant attention over the past several years, and we will compare the California framework to newly adopted frameworks in other states, including Virginia, Colorado, Connecticut, Iowa, and Utah. There also are proposed legislative proposals in other states – like Florida, Washington, and New York – that diverge in important respects. In addition, the Uniform Law Commission has developed model state privacy legislation that takes a different approach. The first part of this workshop will do a deep dive into these comprehensive state laws and proposals. The second part of the workshop looks to other important state law developments, including enforcement by state attorneys general and state developments around children’s privacy and safety, facial recognition and other biometric privacy issues, health data, direct-to-consumer genetic testing, Internet of Things, Artificial Intelligence, and data security and breach notification developments.
