Global Data Alliance Welcomes EU Approval of UK Data Protection Adequacy

BRUSSELS – June 28, 2021 – The Global Data Alliance welcomes the final approval of the European Commission’s decision on the adequate protection of personal data by the United Kingdom, offering the following statement.

“Today’s interconnected economy is inherently digital. No organization that is part of an international supply chain, regardless of size or sector, can operate without the ability to transfer data across borders,” said Isabelle Roccia, Director, Policy – EMEA, at BSA | The Software Alliance on behalf of the Global Data Alliance. “Today’s UK adequacy determination contributes to providing legal certainty and a valuable data transfer tool for businesses operating in Europe and across the Channel.”

“The UK and the EU remain two of the most open, innovative, and connected economies in the world. This decision is another signal that interoperability can be reached for both robust standards of data responsibility and seamless data flows,” Roccia added.
