BSA Statement on Schumer SAFE Innovation Framework
Enterprise software companies urge legislation to address AI risks
WASHINGTON – BSA | The Software Alliance Vice President of US Government Relations Craig Albright issued the following statement after the release of Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer’s SAFE Innovation Framework for artificial intelligence:
The enterprise software industry has called for legislation to establish safeguards for artificial intelligence and promote the responsible use of AI technologies – a call to action that BSA | The Software Alliance first made in 2021. An important part of any legislation should be the use of impact assessments for the development and deployment of high-risk uses of AI.
BSA appreciates Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer’s commitment to ensuring that the United States promotes AI innovation, along with his emphasis on a bipartisan approach to legislation that addresses AI risks. Senator Schumer asked to enlist the expertise of industry and stakeholders in the development of comprehensive AI legislation, and the enterprise software industry is eager to offer the insights and solutions we have developed in AI. BSA looks forward to continued engagement with Leader Schumer and members of Congress in both parties to achieve these goals.
