BSA Welcomes Further Engagement on Australia’s Assistance and Access Act

CANBERRA, AUSTRALIA — 4 April 2019 — BSA | The Software Alliance welcomes further engagement by Australia’s Parliamentary Joint Committee on Intelligence and Security (Committee) on the Telecommunications and Other Legislation Amendment (Assistance and Access) Act 2018 (Act).

We acknowledge the Committee’s 3 April 2019 report and thank the Committee for their review of the Act. We note that the Committee will be embarking on a further statutory review of the Act in April 2019, and that this will afford an opportunity for the Committee to engage stakeholders on concerns raised in a more considered manner.

“We look forward to participating in the upcoming statutory review of the legislation by the Committee, in order to achieve an improved outcome for the Australian community, law enforcement and technology sector,” said Darryn Lim, Director, Policy – APAC, BSA | The Software Alliance.
