BSA Applauds Senate Passage of USA FREEDOM Act

WASHINGTON — June 2, 2015BSA | The Software Alliance applauded the Senate’s passage of the USA FREEDOM Act, which will end the bulk collection of data and increase transparency in the public and private sectors.

“We loudly applaud the Senate’s adoption of the USA Freedom Act, and we urge President Obama to sign it into law as quickly as possible,” said BSA President and CEO Victoria Espinel. “Ending overly broad data collection and increased transparency are critically important steps in restoring trust in the U.S. surveillance program. Just as importantly, though, the bill ensures the continued availability of other important national security authorities.

“We praise the many members of both the House and Senate who put hard work into crafting the USA FREEDOM Act,” Espinel added. “They chose the right resolution and just did what needed doing.”
