Virtual Event: A Wave of Disruption — A POLITICO Live Conversation with Microsoft President Brad Smith

June 18, 2020, 2 p.m. ET

Speaker: Victoria Espinel, President and CEO, BSA | The Software Alliance

The COVID-19 crisis and the nationwide protests following the killing of George Floyd have created a watershed moment for the tech industry. From using data to help track, trace, and curb the spread of the virus to working remotely and using telehealth, technology is even more prevalent than before the pandemic. At the same time, questions remain about how tech companies are safeguarding privacy in their COVID-19 relief efforts. These issues are playing out as the U.S. deals with ongoing social justice protests, with many tech companies facing pressure to address racial inequities and a lack of diversity in their own ranks.

Join POLITICO technology reporter Cristiano Lima for a conversation with Microsoft President Brad Smith on Thursday, June 18 at 2 PM ET / 11 AM PT.  BSA's Victoria Espinel will give opening remarks for the event, which will feature a discussion on the tech sector’s role in pandemic relief and recovery efforts, whether COVID-19 is changing the relationship between Silicon Valley and Washington and how the industry is grappling with the recent mass protests for racial justice.
